Who We Are
InterVarsity at NIU was founded in 1947 by student leaders committed to
following Jesus and serving their campus. We are part of the largest
and oldest Christian student movement in the world, with over 700
chapters across the United States and 35,000 students. IVCF is also a
founding member of the International
Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) representing 145+ countries
and 250,000 students worldwide.
We are dedicated to establishing a bold & growing witnessing community of Christ-Followers from all ethnicities & cultures.
InterVarsity at NIU is called to out our faith, becoming people who have a compelling life that draws others towards Jesus. We believe that this isn’t done alone. We want to follow the example of the early church and Scripture.
Our whole campus is made up of people who don’t look like us, come from the same background, or share the same interests. Following Jesus means we love people because he loves people. As part of the academic world, we seek to do this in a relevant and compelling way that makes sense to people from a variety of different cultures and ethnicities.
What does this look like?
If you’re around InterVarsity for even a short amount of time you’ll hear words like – connect, pray, fun, community, excellence, love, and motivation. This means regular service projects to help clean a location on campus, partnering with a Residence Hall to provide a social event, training, or help in times of crisis, and then praying on a daily basis for the world we are part of and the campus God has called us to. Students regularly find themselves leading Bible studies, facilitating a discussion group for spiritually questioning friends, being part of the worship team, and serving on councils in the university community, as well as planning campus wide outreaches.

Statement of Faith
We Believe in...
The only true God, the Almighty Creator of all things, existing in three persons--Father, Son, & Holy Spirit--full of love and glory.
The unique divine inspiration, entire trustworthiness, & authority of the BIBLE.
The value and dignity of all people: created in God's image to live in love & holiness but alienated from God & each other because of our sin & guilt, & justly subject to God’s wrath.
Jesus Christ, fully human & fully divine, who lived as a perfect example, who assumed the judgment due sinners by dying in our place, & who was bodily raised from the dead & ascended as Savior & Lord.
Justification by God’s grace to all who repent & put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
The indwelling presence & transforming power of the Holy Spirit who gives to all believers a new life and a new calling to obedient service.
The unity of all believers in Jesus Christ, manifest in worshiping & witnessing churches making disciples throughout the world.
The victorious reign and future personal return of Jesus Christ, who will judge all people with justice and mercy, giving over the unrepentant to eternal condemnation but receiving the redeemed in eternal life.
To God be the glory forever.
